Inside The Closet Of Beth Cavaliere

What do you do during the day?

I am the lucky mom of Thomas and Olivia, ages 7 and 6. While they are at school, I play tennis at Blue Hills Country Club and Elite Tennis, volunteer at their school and our church, St. Michael the Archangel, and gear up to drive them to all of their dance, soccer and football practices.

What are you wearing?

I am wearing a dress by Tibi and shoes by Sam Edelman.

Why do you love this outfit?

I love the color of this dress—it is so feminine. During the week, you usually find me in workout or tennis clothes, but when I go out, I love to dress up. I have a major love/hate relationship with shoes. I want to wear the highest heels, but I am awful at walking in them. At the Standard Style Fashion show last year, I fell down the steps and ended up in the ER wearing heels like these … I still wear them (and buy more!), but now I take the elevator. My friend recently told me she was signing me up for a heel-walking class.

Describe your closet and what you like most about it?

The closet is my favorite room to decorate. I must admit I am not super organized, but I have a system even if it doesn’t look like it. The chair in my closet is mainly used to hold the dozen or so different outfits I try on before I make a final decision (which is often the first one I tried on).

What is your most treasured fashion splurge?

Without a doubt my Chanel Classic Flap Bag in Black Caviar. I LOVE this bag! Erin, the handbag manager at Nordstrom, is amazing. The bag was (and still is) wait-listed across the country. She called every week and updated me on where I was on the list. It took around 7 months to get one, but it was well worth the wait. Some people don’t know that Erin can order just about any bag (Gucci, Balenciaga, etc.) even if it is not carried in the Overland Park Nordstrom. She has this large catalog that gets updated seasonally. She is so knowledgeable and absolutely the best.

Why do you love living in south Johnson County?

I grew up in Brookside and was very hesitant about moving “out south” when I got married 10 years ago. However, I could not be happier with our choice of location. The community of friends we have at our church and in our neighborhood is so wonderful. They are great role models for our kids and I love knowing that we have such a strong support system around us as we raise our family.

What is your design philosophy when it comes to fashion?

I think it is important to know your own style, but to not be afraid to wear something unexpected once in a while. I love to wear bright colors and I consider leopard print to be a neutral.

What is your secret when it comes to loving how you look?

Someone once told me it is better to be the funniest girl in the room than the prettiest girl in the room. I completely agree with this saying! I think having a sense of humor and not taking yourself too seriously will make anyone look good. Of course, wearing a fabulous outfit while being funny never hurts ...

Do you have any fashion tips you might offer?

You should always invest more money into classic pieces such as denim, bags and shoes. I often pair those items with less expensive trendier pieces that I know I won’t wear very long. The other day I was wearing a DVF dress with a Forever 21 necklace. No one asked where the dress was from, but everyone wanted to know where I got my necklace. The look on their faces when I told them was priceless.
