Sensational New Skyline

Kathy Boos - Publisher 435 South

There’s no doubt about it: the evolving downtown skyline provides towering evidence of the dramatic revitalization taking place permanently impacting the identity of this Midwestern community.

One of the most radical changes to the skyline is the long awaited Kauffman Center which kicks off a year long celebration this month counting down to the grand opening of what is to become one of the world’s most important state of the art Performing Arts Centers The aptly named Year2Go event hosted in the trendy Power and Light District will feature none other than the legendary Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin The iconic performer will christen the community’s well deserved love of the newest jewel in the crown of a magnificent community

We all have cause to celebrate this momentous event as we are blessed that Kansas City is home to a mighty, mighty machine of passionate hometown supporters of the arts who are bringing this incredible facility to life, thereby creating a legacy that will serve as host to captivating engagements for generations to come and further elevate the image of our “cowtown” community

Positioned a stone’s throw away from the rapidly developing premier Performing Arts Center is the 6th busiest arena in the entire world. We can all take pride in the spherical marvel that is the Kansas City Sprint Center, recently identified as an international contender for drawing maximum capacity crowds one would expect to see in significantly larger cities such as Dallas, Denver, Chicago and LA.

Clearly, the Midwest has an appetite for entertainment and thankfully, Brenda Tinnen knows how to draw the top entertainers we’ve enjoyed the past few years since the facility first hosted its opening act, Elton John. We’ve had the opportunity to see today’s most sought-after performers including Garth Brooks, Lady Gaga, the Black Eyed Peas, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears and many other performers who once upon a time skipped right past KC on their way to more lucrative venues such as Houston, Minneapolis and St. Louis.

Talent agents now put the Kansas City Sprint Center at the top of their must-do booking sites which also forever changes our access to quality entertainment.

Arrowhead Stadium, known nationally as the home of the most adoring fans and the most challenging stadium for visiting teams in the NFL has also spruced up its digs to the tune of $375 million. Guests now have the option to enjoy many more ‘club-like’ experiences, new breathtaking views, a state-of-the-art science lab and more.

And finally, the very foundation of our deep rootsÑthe American Royal and its signature eventsÑhas been bringing crowds to the Kansas City scene for more than 110 years. Cowgirls and cowboys alike come from far and wide to take in the American Royal’s majesty and celebrate what Midwestern living is all about. The Royal’s president, Greg Maday, says the A/R is Kansas City’s most authentic asset.

Anyone who has ever participated in the world’s largest Barbecue, the BOTAR Ball (Belles of the American Royal), or attended a horse show, barrel race, rodeo or one of the lively livestock auctions knows the truth. We are indeed a cowtown at heart, mindful of our agricultural connections, proud of our heritage and delighted about our future.
